| Drill, turnout and, military knowledge.
This is to teach the essentials of foot drill in order to enable movement in a
orderly manner, to wear the uniform correctly, to be able to recognize the various
ranks and pay compliments. Skill at arms, shooting and safety. This is to teach the rules of safety when handling weapons to an examination standard. Use of map and compass. This is both practical and written tests on the use of a compass and map to enable navigation across country with accuracy and confidence. Fieldcraft. This is a practical test of obstacle crossing, use of camouflage and natural ground features, powers of observation. There is also a theory test on section formations. Self-reliance. This is to teach basic first aid, knowledge of the country code and safety rules for camping, preparation of clothing and equipment ( self and group ) before undertaking an expedition, the ability to pitch and strike a tent and the action to be taken in an emergency.
